There is some documented cases where generic medications have not been manufactured to the same standards as the original and this has significantly impaired their efficacy.. While not generally true it has been enough to raise suspicions in the patients mind, For this reason there is a certain section of the community that won't buy generics and this slows their market penetration. Further there is simple old brand loyalty to a trusted incumbent in the market place. My family is in the category of those who wont buy the cheaper alternative.

So all is not lost as you say but its still a pretty severe blow as we will lose the cost conscious consumer who is prepared to take the risk.
