I remember 1PG talking about how they have alternate means such as google to obtain such data, this came about in discussion as LinkedIn/Facebook had locked down their APIs. From memory there was over 70 sources they mentioned, their data aggregator allowed 1PG to pull information off the likes of GitHub, Dribble and Xing. I have no idea if this is all still relevant as the announced usable/enriched Profile database has reduced from 1.1bln down to 300m+, so there were obviously some holes in their.

In so doing, they have violated an array of federal and state laws, including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.”

Good reason to look to their financials rather than the claimed "subscribers", reminds me of the same rubbish flogged in ZIP not long ago...common denominator.

Data scraping has been around for ages, akin to fossicking in the rubbish bins at the back of the supermarket.
