    Yes but I think younger people are loosing the abilty to do that, mind you technology makes it so you can't too.

    I worked on a prawn trawler in my younger day, when you are days/week away from the nearest civilisation it's a matter of solving the problem with what you have.

    When I was living/working in the Pilbara I had my 76 celica, had problems for time to time but was alway able to do a fix, if only temporary.

    LOL, just remembered an old trick for starting a car when no jumper leads available. Have car with good battery running, disconnect battery and hook it up to car with flat battery. Once started, remove the battery and put the flat battery in. Fit battery into original car. You left that one running in case you drained the battery trying to start the other one. Don't think you can do that with new cars
