Well Elon Musk's Space X project had a blow up today so I wouldnt be holding my breath about the further development of household batteries anytime soon.
What looks like the most likely technological outcome in the US in the next 50 years is that everyone will eventually switch to electric cars but these electric cars will be powered by CCGT electricity power plants. This is already happening. Even in a world full of electric cars - gas is a central player. This is what people dont seem to understand in Australia (yet).
