Yes, he lived through 2 (not 5) years of POW torture, as they all did. McCain was one of many, he was more valuable due to his father's position and was treated/used as such but he also benefited from that. Few, if not no, other POWs with two broken arms were treated to a standard that he was and survived internment.
I'm not knocking him, men did what they had to do, and I, thankfully, never 'won' the Aussie lottery. I'm saying that he was no saint and many, if not most, US veterans of that era have no truck for the man.
