Fleetfoot,
The law in the UK is different for names on the register and nominee share holders. You may have given the nominee account holder rights to vote on your behalf. I know you cannot attend the meeting to speak or vote without permission from the nominee account holder i.e. your banker or stockbroker. There is an Act going through Parliament to rectify this. Nor are you entitled to any perks the company may offer to names on the register.
Thats my understanding of the current situation. This will all change in 2007 due to the new Bill which will come into effect then. Is that what your stockbroker may be concerned about?
