So, starting from the top of the hill downwards, the road is still formed and of reasonable grade. I include a picture of where the walking tracks veer off from the road. There was no sign of anyone, let alone trampers, when I was there. My view is that NTL are correct when they say minor modifications are needed to ensure the safety of trampers up to where their paths diverge from the road.
I am also of the view that the amenity of the area would not be lost due to NTL's underground operations. You can already very clearly hear the constant noise of engines from cars and trucks driving down SH2.
