Re : Another question open for debate, out of all the companies in the Nevada area that have been there for many many years why is only one producing Li? (i.e:Ambermarle)
---------------------
Shouldn't be concerned about only one producing Li at all imo..i actually see that as a good thing..
as to why is only one producing..
The popularity of EVs wasn't as high in the past as it is now..everyone is going green more so now than ever before..Tesla has spurred on the Lithium revolution..
There is now more than ever an unexpected need for lithium supplies..
Ever since electric carmaker Tesla announced plans to build a battery plant outside Reno, Nevada, investors, fans of Elon Musk's company and others around the world have started paying attention to the silver state's large lithium deposits.
The Gigafactory is set to supply batteries for the 500,000 cars Tesla hopes to produce by the end of the decade As the factory comes into production that is likely to spur other small producers in the US, according to analysts.
Tesla’s Model 3 unveiled just on 31 March and already with 325,000 orders, it seems that the market, too, understands that the Model 3 is more than just another electric vehicle. In one week alone, Tesla has racked up around $14 billion in future sales.
Much of the world’s lithium comes from Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Australia and eastern China, and is shipped long distances to battery makers in Asia...Obvious to most that have done research this can prove costly to Tesla for a few reasons 2 being cost of transport and time it takes to receive shipments..
Tesla is experimenting with new ways to get materials for its batteries and potentially lower its costs. When Tesla chose Nevada for its Gigafactory last year, industry-watchers speculated that the state’s ample lithium supply and potential of the surrounding areas for untapped lithium was one of the attractions.
One key to making money on Model 3 vehicles, which are expected to start at round $35,000, is for Tesla to bring down the cost of the lithium-ion batteries that will power the cars...one way to do that it so get local supplies as it will be cost effective for Tesla.
If Tesla's Gigafactory grows as fast as the company projects, Clayton Valley stands to profit.
“You’re going to see a lot more people digging for lithium brine in Nevada,” one producer adds. “For just its closeness to the factory.”
Tesla will likely have a handful of lithium supply deals signed by the time its Nevada factory is operating at full capacity, which is expected in 2020..Tesla is already signing up companies that have not yet went into production ..and is looking for more..
The lithium space is becoming a frantic game of who can get their hands on the choicest new mining acreage . And in North America, it’s all going down in the state of Nevada, which is the staging ground for a U.S. lithium boom that will feed the manufacturing beasts for everything from EVs, battery gigafactories, powerwalls and energy storage solutions to the long and growing list of consumer electronics that we use every day.
Production costs and timing to production are always a factor for Tesla..Hard Rock as most know is more involved time consuming and costly to get to market..
Lithium is a key component in the production of batteries used in cell phones and electric vehicles. As sales of electric vehicles, which topped 500,000 worldwide last year, increase, so is demand for lithium.
Using evaporation to mine lithium brine is an old and time consuming process, taking well over a year to produce lithium.
Pure Energy Materials, a mining company based in Canada, is hoping to cut down on that time by extracting the lithium brine from the ground and processing it immediately in Nevada to make lithium hydroxide that will be used to make batteries.
"Instead of taking 18 months or two years like with a large evaporation pond, this is an industrial process that works in a matter of hours,"
Pure Energy have not so long ago signed a contract with Tesla to supply..nothing stopping companies like CAD finding Li and doing a JV with their properties..
The properties CAD has have good potential imo..DYOR come to your own conclusions..GLTAH.
