the argument for the govt to sell any business is that they are in the business of governing, not commerce. Politics cannot run commerce successfully.
The counter argument is that if privatised big business will move in and steam roll the little people. Thats been a bit of a furphy; whilst there have been some hiccups (eg Auckland power crisis) most run well.
Imagine having to rely on the state owned supermarkets for essentials.
What is needed is good govt to legislate for good business. (IMHO of course)
