Fortunately, we want kids to enjoy learning and don't whack them if they are considered by a Christian Brother not to be up to speed. Personally, if I had belted around by a teacher I would be very anxious to never return to school again and be begging my mother to leave asap.
A few of those Christian Brothers were themselves in need of a good hiding from what I have learned of them in the recent Royal Commission:
"THE former head of the Christian Brothers has told the child abuse royal commission that the order cared more about protecting each other than children."
Doubt whether you learned because you were belted "for our (your) good", mogga. You would have learned without the belting.
Heaven help us if we ever consider that we need to belt up kids in order to get them literate. That would be back to the dark ages, imho. We need teachers not bouncers or bullies in the classrooms.
