Pic - I am not a fan of the CBs nor am I a religious person nor do I believe that belting or scaring the sheet out of kids is the way to educate them.

But a teacher has to gain the respect of its students to be effective as a teacher.

The CBs gained their respect through fear

It was an accepted practice at the time
It isn't now

Mr Abella would have learnt how to read and write if he had gone to the CBs - by hook or by crook!
