Dont know how big the job is , but, a mate of mine reckons he cleaned up an aluminium trayback ute .
hose it off, dirt ,grease etc.
Brush with pool acid, then scrub with one of those spoonges with the abrasive face... May need a couple.
watch the fumes.
Wash it down, than spray with one of those lacquer in a spray can from the hardware or auto shop for a coat..
Not sure about the pitting though , only way to remove those is to rip the metal down to the depth of the pitting i'd reckon.
