I don't believe that using fossil fuels is really such a bad thing, I saw a chart recently that showed CO2 levels have gradually declined over thousands of years and are at dangerously low levels now. Increasing levels of CO2 are giving increased vegetative growth and food production as the worlds population increases. If CO2 levels were to drop now we would have mass starvation.
All these fossil fuels are made up from vegetation that once grew by taking CO2 from the air, it didn't cause a problem when it was there before and we are now putting some back and by doing so avoiding disaster.
