That direct quotation from Finnigan is a bit alarming. Surely the rupture of the power cable could hardly be a determining factor in whether the project should continue. The cost of construction and deployment must have been enormous and that for only a 250 kW unit. Imagine retrieving such a colossal device from the seafloor. Other overseas projects have folded, not so much because of failure, but because of high cost of early models. Significant investors need to see the path to commercialisation. For CWE this path is reasonably clear. (Although some posters here think the path should be just a 20m driveway.)
