My guess is that the self-dosing dropper is the result of female consumer feedback. This method of application allows the tonic to be localised directly onto the scalp where the target follicle area exists rather than using it like a hair spray, where much of the product would be ineffective. Application to a small concentrated area would allow already styled hair to not be disturbed, which is important for women since the product is meant to be used more than once a day. Concentrated application should produce a more obvious result, leading to improved sales.
These application issues would be less important for male users, with shorter hair and generally larger targeted scalp areas so that a spray, a rub in and a quick comb afterwards should suffice.
Interesting to know what the NEW formulation is. Quite possibly it corresponds to the product developed for the US market (with less alcohol), which would make sense. No point in manufacturing two different products to perform the one task.
