Some historical info on the Bald Hill operations.
BALD HILL TANTALUM
In July, 2015, executives from Mitsubishi inspected the Secondary Beneficiation Plant at Boulder, to examine the final concentrate being produced. The assay results at the time surpassed their initial expectations.
Bald Hill Mine Initially Operated by Haddington International Resources Limited
The Bald Hill Tantalum deposits were originally mined by Haddington International Resources Limited, in July, 2001, in conjunction with Sons of Gwalia, with the first shipment of Tantalite concentrate sent to Sons of Gwalia by August the same year, just one month later. At this time mining at Bald Hill consisted of only three pits, the West, South and North pits, with mining commencing in the North pit.
Mining at Bald Hill was initially undertaken by means of a 65 tonne excavator and 40 tonne articulated dump trucks..Sufficient ore was mined in a six month period to last a 12 month production period. The plant, that was was designed and constructed by Haddington, used the usual method of recovering the tantalite from the ore with gravity separation in spirals technology. The crushed ore was fed into the plant with a front end loader where it was subjected to a vibration screen to separate the varying particle sizes. When the particles reached a size of 1.5 millimeters, or less, they were removed from the spiral circuit. The particles were then collected and passed on to another spiral for cleaning before being placed in drums for transportation to Sons of Gwalia for further processing.
