Of course what can be seen from earth right now is ALL in the past. Almost going back 13.8 billion years. So Hanrahan it will take some time for the universe to catch up with current earth events. But whoever is out there, maybe giant amoeba or some kind of robotic creatures, will be laughing when they do.
I believe that the earth will be devoured by our sun in about 4 billion years - but I may be wrong. By then the climate will have changed to permanent HEAT.
