Ferro-dysprosium prices weaken

BEIJING (Info-RE) 20-Oct-16 Ferro-dysprosium prices have weakened further in the past few days in line with the softened dysprosium oxide prices as well as flat consumer buying.

Prices for ferro-dysprosium (Dy 80%) are holding about RMB1,220-1,230/kg($181-183/kg) right now, compared to RMB1,230-1,240/kg($183-184/kg) seen in the past few weeks.

The weakness in dysprosium oxide prices has put pressure on ferro-dysprosium prices recently. Market sources said that 99% dysprosium oxide is available about RMB1,200/kg($178/kg) right now and prices below RMB1,200/kg($178/kg) are also being reported.

At the same time, the persistent lack of purchases from downstream NdFeB magnet makers has also contributed to the slight reduction in dysprosium prices.

Many market players have been cautious about the price direction in the short term because little improvement has been seen in downstream consumer buying so far.
