Yes doodledog, the diamonds were formed from between 1 and 3.5 billion years ago, and then transported by lava from the diamond stability zone around 150km from the surface.
It's an amazing journey and one that guarantees that every diamond is unique. I understand that at Lulo we have a far higher percentage of Type lla stones than the world average due to the fact that Lulo straddles the Lucapa Graben and the earth's crust is relatively thin at our concession.
I don't profess to know the science behind the exceptional gems at Lulo, but I'm quietly confident that it's related to the temperature and time the diamonds were exposed to the lava.
