No secret than IWL and ETR have been looking to tie up. They've had several discussions in the past. Both execs are saying they see further consolidation and it would make a lot of sense for both to get together to take on Commsec.
That said, the bounce could be due to fundamentals! They've made a motza the last 6 months due to the extra trades from HSBC customers, the approx 30% rise in trades in the market over the previous year and of course the T3 float which had generous commissions for brokers.
