Its so very true . If you think you can pick exact top or bottoms you are kidding yourself ! .. A quality stock like BHP well off its highs will certainly recover , and is presently a buying opportunity IMHO . I certainly wouldnt be shorting it ..but is this the bottom ? who knows ?
And just a point about '87 ..if you purchased in 1986 ..went away for '87 ..didnt check anything till '88 ..you would never have known such a thing happened ! And if you were watching ..and watching earnings and p/es you most certainly would have seen it coming .
I can remember owning a small miner ( cant remember the company name ) purchased inj '86 @ 20c sold late '86 for 60 c ..In 87 Prior to the crash it hit $6.40 .. was never going to be worth that .
BHP ... an entirely different story !
