fascinating discussion - I have just read the exchange between you and whereu and can relate to what you say about arts, crafts, music, abstract beauty etc. ; these things have given me the greatest pleasures in this life, whether they were external or produced by myself in minute measure. It is the creative spirit of humans, which makes life worth living IMO;; it's also the personal 'aha' moment, when we discover a truth, another light upon the path. Whether this alone makes us immortal is a mute point, it is just enough to drink from that fountain, whilst we live.
Here is an analogy which might be applied to some of our accomplishments: one of my artist friends who lives in the country on a farm with a wonderful tree outside their kitchen and a little outside terrace, said to me one day, when there was incessant, deafening but also beautiful twittering going on in that tree: 'here is us thinking: how beautiful, what inspired birdsong' when in reality all these critters are really saying to each other: 'this is my spot, get out of my space, be off, f.... off' essentially squabbling, posturing and fighting for space.'
Could our artful expressions be viewed in a similar light, by an outsider, do you think?
