There r 2 issues,first being the coverage issue which basically levels the playing field for the mobile operators,but declaring regional not only effects the regional customers it effects every customer metro customers included eg accc said if u (a city slicker) r travelling thru dubbo when vodafone coverage finishes u switch to telstra,the price vodafone pays tls is accc controlled.
Second point,barriers to entry,at the moment all mobile re sellers access mobile owners networks thru w/sale pricing controlled by the owners.No mobile owner w/sales its full national network.So if the accc declares regional that means any re seller eg amaysim,aldis,wes,wow etc would have access to metro mobile thru competitive pricing and then regional access thru pricing controlled by the accc.Result ,lets call them a disruptor re seller with no employees would have naional access after spending nothing on infrastructureie spectrum,base stations etc obviously with a very low back office cost base.
Then of course it depends on the technology the accc feels should b declared ie 3g,4g,4gx etc.
Clearly imo this is a threat to tls and i hope tls doesn't turn into another fairfax ie and not take advantage of its market dominance while it has it,because imo if the accc intereference/cancer starts it wont stop.ie next u will have mobile re sellers complaining they can't compete in metro areas,sound familiar.
ps tls should invest in oml,tyro and unlockd proven type business models imo.
ps e health i still maintain tls can't run such a complicated business ok take a 40% passive interest in the business and let those that understand it run it like ooyala.
