Check out a broker called optionsxpress.com
No minimum amount required in your account to open it. If you click the margin button upon registration they will lend you 1:1 at very low rates compared to aussie margin lender. no bank accounts required as your brokerage account is treated as one. Their online system is fantastic for either share or derivitives. The only form you need to fill out is to sign the account openning form and a W8 form for aliens which is a reciprocal tax agreement between aus and US so you don't get taxed over there.
