Aust Mining completes Mt Norma plant commissioning
Sydney - Friday - July 25: (RWE) - Australian Mining Investments Ltd has completed the commissioning phase of the Mt Norma Copper Sulphate Plant at Cloncurry, Queensland.
The company believes the commissioning phase confirms the AUM SX Column Technology will now operate at commercial levels of production.
It has been experimenting with different-sized mediums and loading procedures to obtain the maximum flow and loading of copper within the circuit.
The optimum medium has been identified, resulting in a flow of 300 cubic metres p/h per column and increased copper recovery.
As a result of the additional testing of medium and loading procedures during commissioning, the company's metallurgical team discovered a new addition to the loading cycle which increased the copper loading of the columns over and above the results from the pilot plant results.
The appropriate sized medium has been ordered to load all the columns and it is expected the plant will be operating at the full capacity of 6000 tonnes a year production within the next six weeks.
Plans are under way for the mining of high-grade copper ore from the Mt Norma orebody and the construction of a 50,000 tonne vat leach pad with the view to increasing production.
