WA Premier defends son Sam Barnett over 'unethical' property purchase
Premier Colin Barnett has been forced to defend his son after he reneged on a complicated beachside property deal near Kalbarri in WA's Mid-West.
Targeting primarily wealthy Chinese tourists and hoping to charge more than $3000 a night for luxury 'glamping' accommodation, Mr Barnett's planned resort would be Australia's most expensive tent accommodation and offer guests horse riding, beach yoga, fishing and snorkelling experiences.
Last year, his father Colin took control of the tourism portfolio after a Cabinet reshuffle and one of his first announcements was a $20 million spending boost to the Mid West tourism, including a skywalk in the Kalbarri National Park, 30 minutes from his son's property.
