If you are in expansion mode (like AWS), your overheads are likely to be and are justifiably high.
Neither do you want a tax burden during your expansion phase which a profit will create.
Thus many companies defer making a profit until they have the infrastructure to guarantee continued and growing profitability. However to obtain finance from banks, they need to show growing revenues and a business plan which employs those revenues to support expansion.
This strategy enables quicker business growth and greater eventual profitability with minimised tax.
Thus increasing revenues can be a more reliable indicator than profit that all is going according to plan.
