Little "patent trolls" like QPSX [IPR] are putting fear into the hearts of big businesses around the globe.
Patent litigation is a new and lucrative way of making money. QPSX and its rivals search the world for patents that are being infringed, or might be infringed in the future, by large companies. They acquire the patents and sue the infringers, or help the patent owners to sue. QPSX does not even finance its litigation, but rather users funders like fellow Australian company IMF.
In early 2006 QPSX has legal action running against Deutsche Telekom and Siemens.
Meanwhile in the US, Forgent Networks has so far sued 44 companies over a single patent, earning a total of $US108.4m.
