Pretty certain statistics/facts have been presented here time and time again contrary to what you have just said. Over a third of owners don't have a mortgage, and a significant proportion of those that do have equity, savings, and are well ahead on repayments. Seems the facts can't get in the way of a good story... even after they've been posted here about 10 times.
