IMO its good that governments are talking about banning petrol and diesel cars but by 2050?
Its the same as the news regarding BMW,Daimler, Ford and VW building their charging network. They're going to build 1000 charging stations across Europe with 400 initially.
Europe has 3 quarters of a billion people covering some 10.18 million square Km's so IMO that many charging stations isn't going to go along way.
I've tried to google the amount of service stations in Europe but the latest data I could find in 2013 says there are 8455 in the UK alone. 14,300 in Germany and I'm not sure about the numbers from there but it gives you a good context of what 400 stations are in the context of Europe as a whole. As an aside the US had 114,474 in in 2012.
Im not surprised by this consortium being announced I mean who else is going to build them?
Why would any government want to outlay the cost of charging stations for no return? IMO it doesn't make sense.
As I've said before the EV industry is building momentum but the time lines IMO are years away.
