Several vehicles are still buried in sand after a king tide overnight swamped a popular beach on the Coorong on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
Excavators are being used to dig up around 30 vehicles, which were swamped at the beach near Salt Creek.
Scott Turner from the State Emergency Service (SES) says at least four are still stuck.
"Some of the vehicles have started to sink in the wet sand from the king tide last night," he said.
Many of the motorists were taking part in the Kingston Lion's Club fishing competition.
Member Les Smith says the vehicles were parked on a sand bank, which disappeared with the king tide.
"It's an annual event that's been going for 28 years and nothing like this has ever happened before," he said.
Emergency crews have removed people from the beach.
At least two people have been treated for hypothermia in the Kingston Hospital.
Competition organiser Peter Cooper says a number of four-wheel-drive vehicles became bogged.
"That's what happened - they had to get out of their vehicles, go back towards the sand dunes and that's where they got very cold and wet," he said.
