I have read all these comments and agree with some and laugh at others. I worked in private industry and went into the TAFE system. The first 2 years are the hardest, try performing in front of 20 students ready to tear you apart at the first chance. Keep them busy, entertained and even try to inject something into their brains. Once you have become established and IF you have the right qualities then the job is not that hard. When I hear of people spending massive amounts of time in preparing it is usually to cover their deficiencies, eg poor memory and slow thinking. Over the years I got a lot of smart a--e comments from people . Every one of the people I got in to do part time guest lecturing could not handle it.
Unfortunately the system is stuffed and too much baby sitting for slack parents or teaching rubbish.
Best day of my teaching career was when I left and never looked back.
