While I am not a takeover cheer leader (more of a realist). This is not quite correct as if it were so it would be a material piece of information that the company would have been compelled to disclose.
This said a Chinese minority interest in the flagship asset is its own deterrent albeit not a contractual one.
A financially strong owner would be able to manage that interest and the Chinese would not like it so it would likely result in a battle for control.
A greenmail strategy would be a good approach for any potential suitor.
