Not sure. From memory Euro options are the standard option type that the others developed from. Possibly easier to value as less complicated than American and other styles that have the added flexibility (can be hard to attribute a valuation to that). Ultimately, most would execute around the time of expiry anyway to maximise the time value, but the flexibility of American style oppies would still appeal to a lot of people.
