The share price of the Multiplex Group shot up to $A4.85 on 25 January 2007 after the hint of an offer. Since then analysts have cooled the enthusiasm slightly, with Macquarie Research Equities tipping a maximum of $A5 and another, JP Morgan, stretching it to $A5.20. The speculation came as a result of a Multiplex Group announcement that a third party had requested discussions. Speculation is rife that the talks are with a private equity bidder. Macquarie also mentioned a word of caution on the chance of conflicts of interest involving the Roberts family's position in the company.
