Sorry to butt in on such a pleasant thread but I think you can assist me with a query that I've had for a while.
If you can borrow any shares to allow you to short them, why does the SE have a specific list of shortable shares, with maximum volumes etc? Are you talking about private arrangements done without a broker being involved? In effect are brokers allowed to short any share that they can borrow against, or is this done outside the rules?
