Now we know around 30% of Type 1 and 10-40% of Type 2 diabetic patients will develop kidney disease.
Now the treatment of kidney disease costs around $50k-$70k per patient per year. Which will amount to a cost of $12 billion between 2012-2020. But with ever increasing numbers of diabetic patients this number will continue to push northward.
Our public health care wants to transition towards a proactive health system. Now if there was a screening tool to diagnostically test patients on their potential of developing CKD, what woukd that be worth in savings to the health budget compared to $50k- $70k per patient?
