Ok so with oil and gas prices likely to move up in the future, it is probably fair to say that carbon relative to demand is in short supply globally since energy is simply the result of turning solid carbon into carbon dioxide. How on earth do carbon trading initiatives expect to discourage holders of carbon (so called sinks) from actually selling this carbon to market. We are in a carbon constrained world. The most widely sought after commodity in Afghanistan is wood - or for the carbon traders, carbon!

As a farmer I could sequester a sheetload of carbon in my soils but when cellulosic ethanol technology is advanced, the soil won't be getting it. The ethanol producers will be. You can't have short fossil fuel reserves and expect other forms of carbon to not be viewed as fuel sources. Totally irrational and naive! Don't ffall for the con job. The best way to deal with greenhouse emissions is to reduce them at the source and switching to lower emitting technologies/systems of production. Because in the future if supply prediction are correct forced rationing will occur anyway ... and then you'll see unavoidable effects on GDP.

    As one small example ...
Growing wheat I consume the energy equivalent of 150L of oil just for the fertilizer alone. If I switch to a perennial legume crop such as sandalwood nuts I remove the need for fertilizer and annual planting costs and get rid of that fossil fuel liability.
