That article was written in 2009 and was based on statistics compiled in the 4 years leading into September 2007.
That period coincided with the massive boom in resources driven by China when I think IMO it's fair to say that most people were making good money in any stock they bought.
As a result IMO those statistics are skewed.
I would be very interested though to see more recent statistical data relevant to the past few years in a market that has been a lot more challenging.
