Saying that announcements can be deduced by the trading pattern of the shares is the same as saying that there is insider trading going on.
I don't deny that that is a possibility, but if so, I wouldn't expect an announcement to precede a quiet period of trading. Just the opposite.
That's the same psychology as saying 'it's quiet, almost too quiet' but that doesn't seem to make sense in this situation.
