As I see it God does not represent a unifying moral code. The drowning of practically the whole of creation with the world wide flood is one example. Another example is when God hardened the Pharaoh's heart to reject pleas to release the Israelites and followed this up by murdering the first born in retaliation.
PS I don't need God to prevent me from committing genocide and feel sorry for people who do.
