Fifth biggest diamond found in Australia discovered at NT’s Merlin diamond mine

A WHOPPER 35.26 carat diamond has been unearthed at the Northern Territory’s Merlin diamond mine.
According to a statement from mine operator Merlin Diamonds on the Australian Stock Exchange, the rough brown stone is the fifth biggest diamond ever discovered in Australia.
A smaller 14.6 carat brown diamond was also found at the mine near Borroloola, as well as a number of smaller white diamonds.
The announcement follows the recent discovery of a rare blue diamond at the site. The blue diamond was much smaller at 0.124 carats, but in a statement, the company said the find demonstrated the “potential for valuable coloured diamonds” at Merlin.
Australia’s largest diamond, a 104.73 carat stone, was discovered at the site. and valued at $US525,000.
