Daya Foundation obtains new cannabis planting permit for medicinal purposes and generates a positive international alliance
Daya Foundation obtains for the third consecutive year a cannabis planting permit for research purposes for clinical application.
The new permit, issued by the Agricultural and Livestock Service of Maule, aims to research and development of phytopharmaceuticals and topical ointments to perform clinical studies for skin conditions and sleep disorders and thus determine their efficacy and safety.
Both research will be funded by Zelda Therapeutics, a research center of Australian and American origin and will be performed by a team of Chilean dermatology for ointment and a CAPREDENA health center for sleep disorders.
In addition, in partnership with the Santo Tomás University of Antofagasta, part of this production will be used to conduct research for the development of a transdermal patch for pain management, and another part will be transferred to the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, so that in that country they begin their first investigations with cannabinoids through four scientists of that house of studies. If both countries obtain the respective permits, it will be the first time that a technology transfer will be established in a regional international cooperation in Latin America with cannabinoids.
For the realization of this third project, Daya Foundation established a partnership with an Australian group to develop the cannabis cultivation area for medicinal purposes. This positive alliance will allow us to continue promoting this activity through the improvement of processes, equipment and infrastructure, as well as the strengthening of professional teams, to respond to the demands that the current scenario poses for the development of medical cannabis worldwide and thus continue to respond to the Need for a growing number of patients.
More than two years ago, after its first authorization and with greater intensity, after its second authorization, several international companies had made contact to be linked with the experience of Daya.
The AusCann company seeks to cultivate cannabis for the production of medicinal products of optimum quality and low cost, seeing in Chile the possibility of doing it for the ideal climate of the central zone, in addition to finding in Daya Foundation an organization with capacities and Related values.
For Daya, the main reasons for deciding to make an alliance with this group were, on the one hand, the desire to establish a long-term relationship with organizations with a shared view and, on the Another, the strong links that this group has with various relevant actors in other parts of the world in the research area, such as Dr. Cristina Sánchez, Dr. Manuel Guzmán, as well as Aunt Zelda, a non-profit organization, In California, with more than six years of experience in the development of cannabis-based products and their clinical applications. All of them with a strong vocation for the democratization of the access to medical cannabis, putting in the center the needs of the patients.
This virtuous partnership between a global company, consolidated in the field and a non-profit organization, will also be able to generate financing for Fundación Daya, contributing to its growth and expanding the impact of the direct work that it carries out with the community, through its other Areas of action, mainly through the counseling and medical accompaniment of patients who now use medicinal cannabis, exercising their right to self-cultivation, being trained by the foundation.
On the other hand, this alliance will consolidate, in the medium term, the groupings of the Daya Network throughout the country, allowing it to become health centers. Through this partnership, Daya and Chile consolidate as indisputable leaders in the medical use of cannabis in Latin America.
Planting is expected to commence within the month of November for a crop that, although it will be significantly smaller than the one carried out in 2016, will continue to provide knowledge for the application of formulations based on cannabis in various pathologies. With great satisfaction these important news are received within the growing community that forms Daya Foundation throughout the country, since they will allow to deepen the mission of the organization.
