A trial of technology means squat if said company can't successfully achieve any signed contracts. One also has to consider implementation of technology, feasibility and sustainability in the long run. Do these directors have the skill-set to see a large unproven undertaking such as this come to fruition ?

Clearly, There is a lot of doubt and uncertainty with the parties they are dealing with otherwise we would be further along and have a much healthier SP.
