Agreed. Solar power in the home with battery backup is eminently sensible. Even wind power too. But not if it is subsidised. No way.
These technologies need to live and die on their own commercial merits to see if they are truly viable, especially as the demonised (mostly coal) power plants have to keep doing the heavy lifting to continue providing base-load power for industry and to homes when the wind doesn't blow or the sun don't shine.
Replace the coal power plants with nuclear power plants over time (realistically decades) and everyone wins.
