like you say, I think we just view this form different angles.
The Kell process though will be a massive development program on a relatively untested technology. This means big dollars and development from almost ground up . Yes it does away with roasting (which also lends itself to acid and power generation), but it uses pressure oxidation... which is another expensive process which will have its own intricacies and challenges.
The KELL flowsheet makes sense, and technically its quite nice.. But its also complicated and Uses two acid systems plus chlorine gas... Plus some SX or IX circuits. In short.. This is like another Murrin Murrin - different process but similar complexity.
So I guess what I'm trying to say, is that a proper evaluation (if done properly) is not a short or cheap thing to do.. and this will be a high risk process. As you point out, the reward may be worth it though
