Study predicts increase in takeover activity
A study of Australia's top resource companies has predicted a surge in takeover activity this year.
The Ernst and Young study has found the number of mergers and acquisitions among the top 160 publicly listed resource companies more than doubled in the past year compared to 2005.
The study also found the number of resource companies to float on the stock market for the first time increased by 43 per cent.
Ernst and Young's Michael Anghie says more takeover activity is expected this year as large resource companies with significant cash flow become more aggressive in the market.
"I think the emerging mid-tiers are certainly the target points for the majors and that sector's grown considerably during the 2006 year with the projects that those companies are involved in developing considerably," he said.
What uranium companies do people see as potential takeover targets? For me EME and MTN come to mind, possibly BMN.
