What is this "we"? We shareholders play no part in how the company develops its technology. It is not a matter of us "letting" the company get distracted or "making" it focus on anything. Look back over the presentations of the past few years. AP has already clearly indicated that some of the functionality discussed in the previous few posts form key components of the applications envisaged for its commercial devices. "We" are passengers on this train, we are obliged to to just sit back and watch I think.
I also do not think that it is a question of "will it work?". I do not believe for a minute that there is any serious doubt as to whether the MEMS device will deliver sound of the quality that has been promised based on the performance of the functionality tests to date. The immediate question is whether the separate subcomponents design's need any additional tweaking so that the integrated device performs optimally. As has already been demonstrated, that is the only likely source of further delays. But either way I don't think the tech team at AP need any urging from shareholders to do their job without being distracted by "other possibilities".
As VB says "Fred and Dennis have long said that once functionality is proved and demonstrations have shown industry what the chip can do that you will struggle to buy any shares. I'm still dreaming of that day." I am pretty confident that that day is coming.
