A combination of the picturesque City of Porto, the famous wine growing Douro Region and the beach resorts of the Minho make the Northern region of Portugal one of its most attractive. Northern Portugal is rural, lush, green and hilly and there are historic towns and villages everywhere you go. The North includes the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Braga and Porto.

There are many manor-houses and mansions in the region where you can enjoy the aristocratic traditions of hospitality. Indulge in the many wines (vinhos verdes) and the variety of handicrafts. The country's longest motorway the A1 from Lisbon to Porto leads to Braga which is situated in the heart of Minho. Follow the coastline on the road from Vila do Conde to Valença and you will not miss the beautiful beaches, seaside resorts and beautiful villages such as Caminha and Vila Nova de Cerveira. Throughout the region the rivers, waterfalls, vineyards set the scene for this rural region steeped in history.
