I suspect it is less to do with the 'drill auger' than it is to do with the 'well casing'. From my understanding the casing needs to be perforated where it meets the conventional targets to....well....let the oil in. Same goes for the deeper conventional flow tests (with the addition of fracture stimulation through the perforations). These deeper unconventional flow tests would require the higher up perforations to be sealed or sidetracked. I am still seeking clarification on this.
This is for testing. I think for production you would have separate wells on the same pad.
